In six starts he earned two wins and three poles. In his 26 starts in 2001 (a blended ABC season in the ARCA, Busch, and Winston Cup Series) he finished in the top-ten on 11 occasions, won two races, and won the pole eight times, including the Winston Cup All-Star race in Charlotte. In 2002 Newman drove the newly-numbered #12 ALLTEL Penske Racing Ford Taurus full-time in the Winston Cup Series.
